My 335 now “sounds amazing” (New wiring loom and pick ups on Epiphone 335)

I purchased an Epiphone es335 instead of a Gibson as I wasn’t sure whether l would’ve like it. However as stated in some YouTube videos, the electrics is where price cuts are made. So I asked Andy whether he could change the pickups and rewire the pots with better ones. I purchased some Seymour Duncan pickups and a wiring kit and left it to Andy. My 335 now “sounds amazing”. The neck pick-up is excellent and the bridge is much sweeter than I imagined it would be. Overall so much better (and brighter) than it was before. Really was worth doing.
Andy sorted it out (in only a few days) and provided a great setup as well.

Gibson guitar model 335 purchased new in year 2000. I met Andy De Looze through the bass player in our local Church Band. I took my Martin D28 to Really Great Guitars on the recommendation of a friend. The guitar had several problems but the one which bugged me most was a persistent buzz. Andy (the owner) asked me to play something and then took a good look at the instrument himself, which resulted in me leaving it with him (it was beyond a quick fix). I said he could keep it for a couple of weeks if necessary. In fact he messaged me the following afternoon to say it was ready.

It was like a different instrument. It looked better (it was covered in sweat marks which he had successfully removed), it felt better (the action was greatly improved and he’d polished the frets and fretboard) but, most important of all, it played much better - oh and the buzz had gone. He’d also straightened a bent machine head which I’d not noticed. All this at what I thought was a very fair price. Based on this experience I would recommend Really Great Guitars repair service to anyone and I will happily go to Andy when I need work on my instruments (I have several) in future. Last point… I found him really easy to discuss the guitar’s problems with.

I heard about Andy when another guitarist friend recommended him to me while I was complaining about the intonation on my Gretsch. After contacting Andy, I took the Gretsch to Andy’s workshop and left it with him. A few days later, Andy had pinned the floating bridge, and serviced all the pots, socket and switch. It was a superb result; to such a degree, I took the Gretsch back for Andy to successfully fit a fantastic pair of TV Jones pick ups! Andy is a joy to work with. I’ve been coming to him for a while now with all my problems and he is patient and helpful and takes the time to explain all the work he’s done. He always has time for you, no matter how big or small the problem is. I’ve had a few small silly issues which he’s sorted on the spot and also a fairly major one too. You know that you can take your pride and joy to him and it will be in the safest of hands. I bought an ES-335 off him a few months ago and when I was busking a few hours from home the wind blew it over and the headstock snapped. I called him on the spot and brought it straight to him. He reassured me everything would be alright (I needed that at the time) and even asked when I next needed it for a gig. The repair is immaculate, and it plays just as well.
