Gibson Custom Shop CS-336 Figured – Vintage Sunburst

Originally released back in 2001, the Gibson CS-336 was originally limited to just 50 pieces worldwide of each finish in Heritage Cherry, Iced Tea, and Vintage Sunburst as per this listing. Little did they know about the commerical success this model was about to achieve. Fast forward to present day and the CS-336 Figured model is still available from Gibson Custom Shop. The CS-336 Figured is made in small quanties and we at Rich Tone always try and keep 336 models on order so we get a stream of these desirable models into stock.

So what makes the CS-336 Unique?

The CS-336 was Gibson Custom Shop’s first “Tonally Carved” Guitar. In essence, the body of the CS336 is carved out of one piece of Mahogany, delivering a center block effect, with tonal chambers either side. The CS-336 delivers the classic look of the 335 with its elegantly tapered figured-top but the Custom Shop’s engineers have enhanced the CS-336’s playability.

Although the CS-336 has the same body lines as the ES-335, the model is scaled down to provide solidbody style comfort. And its neck has the slim profile c shape neck. To create truly great resonating properties, the back and sides of the CS-336 are a single piece of mahogany that is shaped inside and out like a classic Gibson archtop, but with a solid center beam running the length of the body from the neck tenon to the tail block. The 336’s solid, two-piece maple top is also carved inside and out to the shape and thickness of ES-series archtops, but it, too, has a solid center section that matches up to the center block of the body.

Other CS-336 Figured Features

The overall body size of the CS-336 is an ultra-comfortable 13-inches wide, 16 inches long, and 1 11/16th-inches deep. the 336 is often regarded as a “335 for Les Paul Players” who may find the smaller body double cutaway design a little bit more familier to get used to.

The CS-336 has 2c Gibson 57 Classic humbucking pickups along with historic Gibson two tone pot, two volume pot, one three-way selector switch control configuration and an ABR-1 bridge. The hardware is nickel, and the body’s top and back have a stylish single-ply binding which is classic Gibson Styling. The scale length is the traditional Gibson 24.75 inches, and the guitar sports 22 medium jumbo frets.

The Gibson Custom Shop CS-336 comes with Custom Shop Hard Case and COA as standard.
