Here we have this this most gorgeous Martin D-42 from 2005. This is one of a handful featuring the headstock with Fiberloid style faux tortoise shell color head veneer. This veneer was originally used on models from 1940-1942 & matching with its pickguard & it looks lush. This coupled with the C F Martin logo, executed in beautiful jewelry grade Abalone, Spruce top, paired with Indian Rosewood back and sides, Mahogany neck and Ebony for the fingerboard and bridge. Other 42 appointments include. Abalone lining inside the top binding and around the soundhole and fingerboard extension. The fingerboard and bridge features a classic Snowflake motif, again in Abalone. The D-42 also has forward shifted bracing, giving it a really bright resonant tone.
The condition is excellent, with very little signs of use. The neck is straight as an arrow & the frets are in really super shape. There is a small area of forearm staining to the upper bout, but this is very mild & may come off with a nitro cleaning solution!. She sleeps in an aftermarket Plush lined/fitted Hiscox case.
Made of the highest grade woods Martin has available and assembled by their most skilled luthiers, the D42 is built to Martin’s highest specifications. Featuring vintage inspired, hand inlaid Abalone appointments, forward-shifted “X” bracing and Style 45 Snowflake fretboard markers, the D-42 is a classically designed Martin through and through.
