Known as the Cadillac of guitars! In fact, this was part of its purpose when it was first created: not only to compete against Gibson’s Super 400, but to create a flashy and “hip” look for the time. It was an immediate success, not so much between the jazzmen, who stuck to their Gibsons, but within the rock’n’roll/rockabilly scene. Finally a guitar that could match the looks of their pimped-up Cadilacs! The sales of the White Falcon eventually decreased as the genre changed with the years, stopping production in 1980 when the factory closed down.
The Gretsch 6136T White Falcon Players Edition combines a slimmer take on the company’s iconic hollow body with a string-through Bigsby for a workhorse of a guitar with looks to match.
I love the look, and the sound of this Gretsch. The hardware seems that it will last for a long time and It is beautifully balanced and surprisingly lightweight
The Gretsch G6136T White Falcon guitar’s made in Japan. It is made completely of laminated maple body which measure 17″ wide, and 2.75″ deep and it also has two “f” holes and an elevated pickguard. Laminated wood allows the tone to reverberate better and gain more power. The Gloss Urethane finish is one of the finer points of this guitar, as is the nice single cutaway body style.
Three-piece maple neck has an ebony fingerboard with gold-sparkle binding and 22 fret and Neo-Classic thumbnail inlays. The neck is super fast over its entire length, it may well sail solo unlike G6120 which are rather intended for rhythmic or rockabilly! Ebony fingerboard and frets enough fines.
This guitar comes equipped with FilterTron pickups. FilterTrons are dual-coil “humbucking” pickups, developed by Ray Butts at the request of Chet Atkins, who was not particularly fond of Dynasonics. On this guitar, Grestch install Modern High Sensitive (HS) Filtertron pickup. Which use Alnico magnets rather than ceramic, as most modern FilterTrons did, at least in the pre-Fender era. Alnico magnets are generally considered to give them a better, more vintage sound.
It has that classic Gretsch sound that can be heard in old Nashville Country recordings, beatle recordings all the way to Red Hot Chilli Pepper recordings. Basically a bright, yet pleasant shimmering sound. The guitar has a huge potential ranging from the Jazz.
Bridge section on this Falcon is made up of an ebony-based ‘Space Control Roller’, along with a Bigsby vibrato and trapezoid tailpiece that allows musicians to bend the pitch of notes or entire chords with their pick hand for various effects. For the tuners on this guitar we got Grover Imperial gold-plated die-cast tuners.
